In Seattle!

Here's the rainbow scarf on the recipient, my lovely sister:

I'm in the picture too, in the greenhouse at Volunteer Park in Seattle.

Home for Thanksgiving

I'll be out of town for Thanksgiving. Although I have my laptop, at the moment I'm not anywhere that I can connect it to the internet, so this blog will likely be very sparse for the next week.

I did some knitting on the plane - some nice lacy socks that I've yet to blog. I even fringed my Harry Potter scarf so I can wear it (along with Hufflepuff Brian and Ravenclaw Melanie) when we go to see the movie this week. :)

In other news, I received a fab hat from Monkee on the Knitty Coffeeshop - it's a green pixie hat with fun fur trim. Hilarious. I even took a picture before leaving for the airport but I didn't have time to post it! I promise I'll get this stuff up sometime soon.

Haven't updated in a while...

Because I haven't finished anything since the rainbow scarf!

I've been knitting, don't get me wrong, but you know how good (bad) I am about WIP pictures.

So what have I been working on, you ask...

Well I'm finally past the colorwork and about to start waist-shaping on my Tivoli #2 (with stars!) and I'm nearly done with my self designed shell. Just have to finish the front and 3-needle bind off the shoulders. Maybe a bit of crochet.

The socks have been neglected of late. :(

Also knitting for the exchanges, but that's secret, of course. ;)

An interesting Sunday

This morning I vowed to finish cleaning my room. And I did, and somehow I ended up cleaning most of the rest of the apartment too. It went something like this:

I was just about done in my bedroom and went to put my glass in the sink. Then I decided to wash the glass, and while I was at it I might as well unpack the rest of the new pans I haven't used yet and wash those too.

Then it was time to sweep my room, so I went to get the broom. But really, I should sweep the entryway first, and then the kitchen, and then the bedroom. And while I'm at it, why don't I mop the kitchen floor? Oh, and I should do the bathroom too - which means sweeping first. And clean out the catbox, and take out the trash...

When I finally got around to knitting it was after noon!

At just after 2pm I headed out and got some yarn for my scarf exchange pal and my sock exchange pal. Then I went to the Knitsmiths (a local knitting group that usually meets a a bookstore) which was meeting at a member's house today because the bookstore was having a meeting or something.

While I was there, I finished the Rainbow scarf:

Postcards

Now, before you start asking why this is on a knitting blog, most of these postcards are from fellow members of the Knitty Coffeeshop.

Knitting progress

I'm nearly done with the rainbow scarf - fab! Then I just have to weave in ends, pack it up, and possibly find a little something else for my small sis.

Current projects on the needles:
(from oldest to newest)
1. Zebra shrug
2. Star Tivoli
3. Camo scarf
4. Rainbow scarf
5. Denmark socks
6. Conwy sock

For me, that's really not many. The camo scarf is for boring in-class knitting and has nothing even resembling a deadline. Rainbow scarf is nearly done! The Tivoli will fly once I get past the colorwork, because then it becomes mindless TV knitting. ;)

In other news, I'm a goth sheep. Are you surprised?

The Rainbow Scarf

My little sister is turning 17 today, and here is her birthday present:

Don't worry about it not being done, though, because she's not getting it until I go home for Thanksgiving. ;)

It's actually been a fairly quick knit, for being 5 feet long and on size 6 needles. Just about done with yellow and then just orange and red to go!

Questions for the Holiday Sox Exchange

1. What are your foot measurements?

heel to toe: 9"
around foot at instep: 8 3/4"
around ankle: 9"

if my exchange pal has any more questions they can just email me. ;) (And yes, I was just measuring my foot in my office at lab.) :P

2. Do you have a favorite sock yarn?

Lorna's Laces is my fave to knit with so far.

3. Is there a specific pattern you favor?...lace or ribbed?

I really like the little lacy scalloped socks I've seen around.

4. What colors do you prefer? Do you like solids or stripes?

Blue, blue, blue. And purple. I like variagated (but not necessarily stripes) and I'd be up for solid since I don't have any solid colored (handknit) socks yet. OK, some on the needles...

5. Do you have any allergies to a specific fiber?

Nope! Not a big fan of silk though. Machine washable would be great.

6. Holiday that you usually celebrate?

The general winter holiday season.

Ah, the joys of precision scientific equipment...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

It may not look like it, but those balls of yarn are exactly the same weight - accurate to a 1/10th of a gram. I love working in a lab. :)

Now with the yarn split in half I can start the Conwy socks!

New WIP, yarn and kitty, postcards!

Not a ton of knitting today, I did laundry and cleaned. :(

But I did manage (last night actually) to start my socks for the solid socks KAL. Here they are:

I'm knitting the Denmark pattern from Knitting On the Road in Patons Kroy.

Also wanted to show off some yarn that I'm very excited about, posed here with the kitty:

She's thinking "Why does she do this to me?" but obliged and pretended to hold the yarn when I put it on top of her. ;)

And finally pictures of the postcards on my wall. I've finally caught up with putting them up, except the most recent one from Skip - oops!

The photo is kinda blurry, but I have closeups for another day. :)

Britpop hat, and that blog thing that's going around

The Britpop hat is done!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I'm channeling my inner grunge girl. (Hee... Nirvana just came on iTunes as I was typing that!) No, wait, I'm thinking of when he heartlessly dumped me at the age of 13. Ok, ok, I'm just trying not to look like an idiot while taking a picture of myself in the bathroom mirror. On a Friday night. With no one here but me and my cats...

What is your favorite yarn to knit with?

Surprisingly, I haven't knit with all that many yarns - I guess maybe Noro Kureyon because I like the color changes - keeps things interesting! I also love the feel of Malabrigo but I haven't knit with it yet. Going to make myself a scarf when I get all the other WIPs done.

Your favorite needles?

Addi Turbo - no contest!

The Worst thing you've ever knit?

Hmm... I made my mom some red socks in LB Wool-Ease (by request) for her birthday. I asked her what size feet she has (just to double-check) and she said same as mine. I knit the socks, I tried them on and they fit great! I sent them to her, and they were too small. I hate red, too, so I don't want them. :(

Your most favorite knit pattern? (maybe you don't like wearing it, but it was the most fun to knit)

The multidirectional scarf! I keep wanting to make more and more of them. I'm going to make one for myself in Kureon.

Most valuable knitting technique?

Socks on circs. 1 on 2, 2 on 1, 1 on 1, 2 on 2... whatever, as long as I don't have to try to carry DPNs in my backpack. ;)

Best book or magazine?

Knitting On the Road - so many sock patterns, so little time ;)

Your favorite knitblogs?

There are quite a few, too many to list so I won't offend anyone by listing just one.

Your favorite knit-a-long?

Dusting off those WIPs I'm getting so much done, and I get to knit whatever I wanted.

Your favorite knit wear designer?

Myself! Honestly, I can't seem to make a pattern without changing *something*. Well, aside from a few pairs of socks.

The item you wear/use the most?

My Magic Stripes socks - first socks I made and they are machine washable!

I'm not going to tag anyone, but if you read this and want to do it then just pretend I tagged you. :)

Friday Harbor Socks

These poor socks languished for so long, but finally they're done!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

It wasn't my fault, really! My Knitting On the Road book was lost by the airline (in my bag, got the bag back but no book or 3/4 done Spey Valley socks) and I had to buy the book again and get around to knitting them when it made me all angry. Hey, I'm still bitter about them 'misplacing' my knitting. :(

But anyway - happy thoughts - the socks are done!
