I'm a nice daughter (or) Bunny!

I finally finished the bunny I was making for my mom, so here it is in all it's finished glory!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Cute, huh?

Pattern: Bunny from Last Minute Knitted Gifts
Yarn: Andean Treasure from Knitpicks, random pink stuff for ears
Started: 2/2?/06
Finished: 4/25/06 (boy, that seaming took forever!)

I sent the bunny off to my mom this afternoon. This is FO #3 for April. I made a goal to finish 5 of my 9 WIPs shown on WIP It Out, so we'll see if I succeed.

I is for...

Ice Cream!

Today was free scoop day at Ben & Jerry's, so I took advantage and got a scoop of Cherry Garcia before knitting group. Since my camera battery died, this picture is brought to you by my cell phone, sorry for the poor quality.

Monday night knitting group

It was an eventful night at my Monday knitting group. Cassandra was back from her MCAT-induced break and finished her scarf:

And Catherine and I were working on socks. Catherine is holding her 2nd Sockapaloooza Jaywalker and I'm holding my Sixth Sense Socks, which are not much further along than when I posted the Yarn Harlot picture.

Alexis came close to finishing her baby blanket too.

So my knitting life has mostly been socks recently. I've even started yet another pair (Don't tell!) out of the extra Opal ladybug yarn that I swapped for. And I've joined yet another sock exchange, this one for the SYAC. No worries, I'll be starting those as soon as I get the Sixth Sense Socks off the needles. They're currently ready to turn the heel, so that shouldn't take too much longer.

A meeting of socks... oh, and knitters too

Today I went to see the Yarn Harlot. While there I met up with Joanna and we took this adorable picture:

Look at all those socks! Joanna is holding her first Fair Isle sock, and I have my current socks-in-progress the Sixth Sense socks. (See, it's also a WIP picture!)

It was fun, she was funny, and afterwards I ate sushi with Joanna and two other grad students. While I was there I also got the chance to see a bunch of local knitters who I haven't seen in a while.

Knitting in public

On Kat's blog there's a contest about the 5 strangest places you've knit. I thought this was an interesting idea since I do much of my knitting in public.

So in no particular order:

1. Public transportation (subway, bus, light rail, and airplanes): I knit almost constantly on public transportation, and often get comments about it. I had an old Chinese woman feel my yarn while her younger daughter translated to me that she liked the color. I started a conversation on the subway late one night when a guy in his 20s asked what I was knitting...

2. Restaurants/bars: I used to attend a knitting group in a bar, I knitted with my friend Brian on New Year's Eve at a restaurant, and the other morning I knit with my friend Rachel while having breakfast.

3. In lab: I work in a lab. When I have time between setting up assays I sometimes knit. Usually in my office, but occasionally in the open lab.

4. At the platelet donation center: I donate platlets regularly (about every 2 weeks) so I often end up knitting in the waiting room or the donation area. Not while donating, though, as you can't move one arm.

5. At rock/punk/indie concerts: Most recently Death Cab For Cutie/Franz Ferdinand and H.I.M. The Death Cab show I was in a seat, but for H.I.M. I knit standing!

Another SP package!

Well, good thing I got this package, otherwise I wouldn't be able to keep up with my posting trend. ;)

Image hosting by Photobucket

The package was packed up on my birthday, and it arrived today. Well, yesterday, but I wasn't home to get it yesterday. ;)

Image hosting by Photobucket

It contained all sorts of goodies!

A dragonfly hook with a clip on the end, meant to hold keys in your purse, but I might find another use for it.

A pin for my SP's local fiber artist collective, but it's a yarn making an S and knitting needles so it works for me, S for Stariel, ya know.

A pair of size 3 needles with little felt balls on the ends. Made by a friend of my SP, and perfect for lace!

Lindt chocolate lambs. :D

A knitted rose pin! Did you make it SP?

And last but certainly not least, Cool Socks Warm Feet by Lucy Neatby - she's Canadian! It has lots of patterns for printed yarns, which is awesome because I have a lot of variagated yarn.

Thanks so much SP!

And yet another FO

So, I actually finished Tubey yesterday. But then I had an eventful evening away from home (*ahem* Buffy sleepover) and didn't post it. Then today I finished Elfine's Socks, and just had to post those too...

Pattern: Elfine's Socks PDF here
Yarn: Knitpicks Essential in Grass
Started: 3/17/06
Finished: 4/18/06

Tubey is done!

Pattern: Tubey
Started: 1/?/06
Finished: 4/17/06

I tried to photograph myself wearing Tubey, but apparently taking a full length picture of your sweater while framing the shot in the mirror and standing on tiptoe in the bathroom doesn't work well. Who would have thought?

I modified the pattern to have 3/4 length sleeves, which I really like. And of course the colors are different, but I did follow the stripe sequence of the original.

Also, this sweater was knit entirely on my couch while watching Netflix! It took a couple of months since I didn't work on it other than that.

H is for...

Haroset!

Image hosting by Photobucket

My very favorite Passover food. (Haroset is the spread, it's on matzo.) :) It's made of fruit and nuts - the type varies, but my dad's family usually made it with dates and walnuts.

Happy Birthday to Me!

It's been a good birthday. First off, the birthday loot:

Image hosting by Photobucket

I have such lovely friends!

What do we have here? Well the sock yarn is from Jenn, along with the lovely needle cases (a big one and a smaller "travel" one, and a little zipper bag for notions. The handpainted stars and moon are from Catherine, and the adorable Orlando Bloom READ keychain is from Alexis.

I got the 2nd two gifts at knitting group yesterday, where I took a picture of one of my fellow knitters Karla. Did you know there is more than one Green Monster in Boston?

New haircut!

Most recent photo of that hair on my head is here.

I like it. We'll see how it stands up to the test of rolling out of bed, showering, and walking out the front door. ;)

Hmm... I knitted on some socks today.

ETA: Oh, the story of the hair? I've been growing out my hair for a long time saying I'll donate it to Locks of Love when it gets long enough. Well finally that day has come and I now have my new shorter (and more attractive, IMO) haircut. :)

Look what came in the mail today!

Image hosting by Photobucket

My first SP package!

"First?", you ask. Why yes. The one I posted earlier was the second, because the first was lost. Lost in the mail. But today it showed up at my door, nearly 2 months after being mailed, all nonchalant and not explaining where it had been all that time.

Image hosting by Photobucket

You can imagine I was excited to see all these nicely wrapped goodies pouring out. :) I made quick work of unwrapping them and discovered this:

From left:

Maple fudge above an adorable card, two skeins of beautiful blue Atacama Alpaca, Masala Chai (yummy, my favorite!), knitting notecards with a little sheep magnet on top, and "groovy" rubber stamps. One of the stamps says "Fab!" :)

Thank you so much SP, I love all my goodies and I'm so glad the package was not missing forever!

Ahhh, sock yarn

So I joined the Sock Yarn Addicts Club for obvious reasons. Let's just say that my sock yarn obsession is not half as bad as some people. ;)

My pic is down in the stash flash post, or you can click here.

Current status:

3 pairs of socks on the needles

sock yarn for 25 more pairs

Better get knitting! :)

G is for...

Grapefruit!

I was going to do F is for Fruit, but then I forgot. And I had to mention my awesome fruit and veggie box that I get from Boston Organics! It's great, every other Thursday fresh fruits and veggies show up at my door - and I have to eat them. It has definitely helped me up my fruit and veggie intake, and it makes it so I don't have to go shopping as often. ;)
