WIP Management

Recently I've been focusing on finishing what I have on the needles before starting new things. So far I've finished 2 things - the Sockapaloooza Savior socks and a test knit - and started 0. Go me!

The second phase of this is going to be getting to that mental list of things I've been planning to knit but just haven't gotten to yet. That and socks.

My WIP plan is that I will have, barring circumstances when I have to knit something unexpected on a deadline, 6 projects at a time. That allows me 3 pairs of socks (I need both complicated and simple ones for me, plus an extra for the current gift/swap/whatever socks I'm knitting) and 3 other projects (one long term, for example Hush Hush, one small, and one whatever).

What do you think, does it sound like a workable plan?

Sadly no pictures today since I'm still in the middle of a bunch of projects and haven't finished anything yet. I have, however, started the heel flaps of my Hedera socks (finally!!) and finished the body of Spork, which should be finished fairly quickly now.

Gimme Your Stuff

I saw a post about Gimme Your Stuff on another blog (Knit the Classics I think) and went to check it out. Pappardele is offering sock yarn from Slovakia for knitting goodies from the US, so I've arranged a swap with her. :)

So since I've decided to join up I thought I'd make this post for them, and to inform any other knitters reading who might be interested.

I'd love to swap knitting-related goodies from the US (or non-knitting stuff as well, whatever!) for sock yarn, candy/chocolate, and other random stuff from other places.

The lucky socks #13

Yup, my 13th pair of socks in 2006! I've surpassed my wildest goals, and we're not even halfway through the year. I think maybe I should raise the goal to 25... and here they are:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

They're Sockapaloooza Savior Socks!

Pattern: out of my head
Yarn: Brown Sheep Naturespun sport weight
Started: 6/10/06
Finished: 6/19/06

If it seems that I've been lagging with the socks lately, well it's almost true. First I finished about half a pair, and then I started these. These socks are extra big, and I'm in the middle of moving. And then I finished them and blocked them and didn't photograph them until after they were done drying, so really it's not as bad as it seems.

My first SP box!

My Knittyboard SP7 sent me these goodies from far away, and they arrived today! :)

The book is a very cute story with beautiful artwork. I love it SP!

Also included was a Hula kit (so we can hula together, she got one too!), an adorable keychain with a computer chip piece on it, and a natural rubber eraser - which is a clue to my SP's identity.

And sock yarn! This beautiful yarn is from Ysolda.

Not pictured was some chocolate from Thorntons. But it's not the normal "it mysteriously disappeared into my tummy" excuse. Oh no. I did eat one piece, but the rest of it mysteriously disappeared into the fridge, because it is 91 degrees out there today!!! No, I am not kidding. The average for today historically is 78. Today it is 91. 91! Excuse me while I go faint. The chocolate was just a little melted. Really, it stood up admirably to the weather.

Extremely High, Extremely Hot Knitting (Amazing Lace Challenge #2)

Today was way too hot here in Boston, but what better than a hot day for extreme lace knitting?

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Yup, I'm knitting on the roof. And the edge of the roof no less, is that extreme enough for you?

I've been away from the blog lately because life is getting in the way. Something about moving to a new apartment and packing and work and all that. ;)

Also I was busy getting famous (OK, that was last weekend...)

The article about last weeks' WWKIP Day came out today: read it here You need to register to read, but it's free.

WWKIP Day

Yup, tomorrow (or, more accurately, later today) is World Wide Knit In Public Day!

I plan to head out to the Harvard Square Au Bon Pain (on Mass Ave, starting at 11am) where there will hopefully be a few Boston KIPers. :)

See you there perhaps? If you're coming leave me a comment.

Spring Feet!

Today I received my socks from the Spring Feet swap! My pal was Tisha, and she designed these great socks which she calls Jersey Rip Tide.

They're my first Sockotta socks. :)

Sockalution finished!

I guess I underestimated my love of sock knitting when I resolved to knit 12 pairs of socks this year. In fact, I originally resolved to knit 6, and then decided to increase it to 12.

Well here is my 12th pair of socks completed this year:

Pattern: Lava Flow from Sockbug
Yarn: mysterious Chinese sock yarn, 100% wool
Started: 5/29/06
Finished: 6/3/06

Here's a closeup of the pattern detail:

The yarn was a gift, and since it's not colors I normally wear I knew I would use it for gift socks. I saw this pattern long ago and this yarn popped into my head because the colors of the yarn in the pattern picture are very similar. Plus, lava!

I decided then that the mysterious Chinese sock yarn would become these socks, and I was just waiting for the perfect occasion. That came with the SYAC Spring Feet Sock Swap. I think my pal will really like these socks. :)

On second thought, I might have made her something more Spring-y, but oh well. ;)
