KBSX2

I'm part of the Knittyboard Sock Exchange - actually I'm one of the people running it - and since my swap pal received her socks I can post them now!

My first pal was Jenneke and I knit her these socks:

Pattern: Little Child's Sock (with modifications) from Knitting Vintage Socks
Yarn: Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in Camouflage
Started: 7/31/07
Finished: 8/13/07

Of course she took an even more beautiful picture:

Now to finish the socks for my other swap pal!

Well, you've gotta have your yarn!

First off, yesterday I got a great package from my Knittyboard SP9:

Lovely Fabel yarn, star potholders/jar openers, a tea straining basket, Werther's (non-melty candy) and a bit of double wrapped chocolate which was only slightly melted.

A closer pic of the yarn:

And now for the title story...

Today while I was getting ready to go out and meet chemgrrl and her mom, who were in town for a few days, the doorbell rang. This is a strange occurrence - and a confusing one, I barely recognize the sound of my doorbell - since my friends usually call to get me to come down rather than ringing the doorbell, and since I didn't have any expected visitors. I grabbed some shoes and headed downstairs, but no one was there. I looked in my mailbox, saw a package slip, and then saw my mailman heading up to a house a couple doors down. I went after him and asked if I could have my package. He handed it to me and said "Well, you've gotta have your yarn!" I agree completely.

Inside was my newest Yarn Pirate shipment:

After that I headed out for the aforementioned meeting. Zanti and Alexis were there too. We went to Windsor Button, where I was a good girl and didn't buy any yarn - I did, however, get blue thread with which to sew on the straps for my poor neglected Spork. We walked around the Boston Common and Public Gardens for a bit, and then chemgrrl and her mom headed off to continue their Boston adventures and the three of us headed up Newbury to go to Newbury Yarns and Lush. I didn't buy any yarn there, either, but I did get a couple of bath bubble bars. Now I just need to get a stopper for my tub (it's the old claw foot kind) so I can utilize them.

A Mysterious Package

Monday night I got home from knitting and found one of the dreaded package slips in my mailbox:

"Hi, this is the Post Office, we're holding your package hostage until you come and get it. By the way, we're only open 'til 5pm!"

In the 'Sender' box it said MJ. Hmm... that's odd, why is MJ sending me mail? So I get online and harass her on IM. After her response to the first of my inquiries was "No comment." I began to get suspicious.

I asked her if she was my Sockapalooza pal and she was! Out of the bazillion people who joined she got me. Now, because she is oh-so-nice and totally nuts not only did she knit me socks for Sockapalooza, but after she found out I was her pal she still knit me late-birthday socks. What a pal!

Today I went and picked up my package before work.

She also bought yummy yarn that I haven't used yet! Ruby Sapphire. In fact, it may have been the same one that I looked at on Etsy and resisted buying. And she knit the Thirassia socks - I downloaded that chart too because I wanted to knit them after seeing them on someone's blog. She sewed me a pretty star bag to match my needle case and she made me a perfect star necklace and sent me blue yarn! And she put Trent Reznor on my sock band. ;)

And nice and close...

Thanks again, MJ!

It's all about the needles!

Tonight I headed out to watch some tattooing in progress.

I brought my needles:

and watched another needle:

I actually got an amazing amount of knitting done - I finished a couple of repeats on the cuffs of my socks and did the whole heel flaps and turns! The knitting is pretty secret around here lately, but it's definitely happening.

I was tagged by Cassandra for the what crafts do you love/like/etc. meme, so here goes:

4. Love it! This is my thing.

* Knitting
* Spinning
* Dyeing
* Candle Making

3. I do or have dabbled in it.

* Crochet
* Cross-stitch
* Needlepoint
* Sewing
* Scrap Booking
* Stamping
* Beading
* Jewelry Making
* Paper Making
* Gardening
* Story Telling, Acting, Stage work
* Video / Film Making
* Music
* Other fun stuff
* Painting or Drawing
* Calligraphy
* Cooking
* Flower Arranging
* Gift Wrapping
* Writing
* Poetry
* Photography
* Decorating
* Graphic Design
* Inventing

2. Would love to try it.

* Quilting

1. I have no interest; complete lack of creativity in this area.

* Macramé
* Shibori (actually I don't know what shibori is and I'm too lazy to look it up)
* Cartooning
* Doll or Toy Making
* Entertaining

As you can probably tell, I'm a dabbler. I've tried many different types of crafts and I enjoy many of them too. And some of them I'm no good at (say, drawing and painting) but I like anyway. Some I would love to do more of but I just don't have enough time for that many hobbies!

And I don't tag, so I won't, but do it if you'd like to.

Sockapalooooza Socks Done!

I had a nice long knitting day and finished my Sockapalooooza socks!

Tomorrow they'll be heading off to their new home. :)

Pattern: Gentleman's Sock in Railway Stitch (with modifications)
Yarn: Knit Picks Essential in Fawn with random black for contrast
Started: 7/21/07
Finished: 8/5/07

After the initial pattern confusion these were a nice knit, although with a few more purls than I usually like. I really like how the texture pattern turned out!

Up next on the needles... more socks!

In other news, I had the opportunity to participate in a knitting round table tonight for the Knitting Time Together podcast. We discussed many knitting-related topics including stash guilt (I totally have it!), LYSs, and knitting stereotypes. Lots of fun!
