I already posted this in my head...

I finished a pair of socks, finally!

Pattern: a highly modified version of Gentleman's Half Hose in Ringwood Pattern from Knitting Vintage Socks
Yarn: ONline Supersocke Savanne-color
Started: 5/25/08
Finished: 6/18/08

I'm still working on my goal of knitting all the socks from Knitting Vintage Socks, but from the start I decided that modified versions were fine since I have very few males to knit socks for. This is one of those cases - I took the Ringwood stitch pattern and plugged it into a pair of socks that is me-sized. The yarn is one that I bought on my trip to Seattle for sock camp and also a new one for me. While I was knitting I got a lot of comments on these socks - the color combination really is gorgeous!

The yarn itself is a fairly standard wool/nylon blend, and it's a bit scratchy compared to the 100% merino hand dyed yarns I've been working with lately. But - like the Noro socks - I think it will be perfectly comfortable on the feet and almost certainly hold up very well.

Knitting In Public

Saturday was WWKIP day. Since this post is a bit late I'm sure you all already know about it. I was working so I couldn't attend the Boston gathering, but I managed to KIP on my way there and back - it ended up being great for my trip home which was complicated by some sort of subway issues.

Quite a bit of knitting is being done but nothing is getting finished. And some of it isn't blogable at the moment, but these socks are:

I can't believe how many comments I've been getting on them! The yarn is ONline Supersocke Savanne, and the colors are very nice. The stitch pattern is from Knitting Vintage Socks - the Ringwood socks in the book are mens' half-hose, so I just made a regular sock size with the stitch pattern.

Yesterday I finished the gusset and have about 2 inches left to go before starting the toe. Hopefully I'll finish up this week.

Socks and A Meme...

The socks-in-progress are numerous and, thus, kind of slow. I'm on the heels on my current simple pair, though, so those should be done pretty quickly.

Catherine tagged me for this a good long while ago, but then I never did it...

So here goes:

“The rules of the game get posted at the beginning. Each player answers the questions about themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5-6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.”

1) What was I doing 10 years ago?

10 years ago I was in high school. And I was doing what all high school students do - going to class, studying, not getting into (much) trouble... No really, I was a really good kid! I was also dying my hair tons of different colors.

2) What are 5 things on my to-do list for today (not in any particular order):

Hmm, well I didn't really have a to-do list for today. I mean, at work, but that's no fun.

3) Snacks I enjoy:

I have trouble telling what foods are "snacks" since I tend to eat snacky foods for meals. But lets go with chocolate covered raisins, tortilla chips with salsa, and popcorn.

4) Things I would do if I were a billionaire:

Well, first off I would buy a house. With a pool - a big one that I could swim laps in. And people to clean it for me. And then I would promptly leave my house and go travel around the world. And in fibery pursuits, I would get a portable wheel and a drum carder and a circular sock machine.

And of course I would make sure my family was comfortable and donate money to charity.

5) Places I have lived:

Seattle and surrounding areas, WA
Oslo, Norway
Boston and surrounding areas, MA

I don't tag people, but if you're reading this and wishing you were tagged go right ahead!

A Library Adventure

Last weekend while looking through Knits from a Painter's Palette I fell in love with the Daydreams Stroller Blanket (ravelry link). Not that I know many babies, but I just really really want to knit it. Maybe for me. Plus, I have that Koigu that I was using for Charlotte's Web...

Who am I kidding? I'm never going to finish it and I'm certainly never going to wear it, so small lap-sized blanket it is! Notice that there is only one project that's finished on ravelry... I'm thinking this is maybe not the greatest omen, but she doesn't have anything bad to say about it...

Hello re-purposed Koigu!

charlotteyarn

In any case, it is pretty much the only thing from that book that I'd have any desire to knit, save the Charlotte's Web - which I apparently don't have any desire to knit, but that's another story - which I already have the single pattern for. So off to the library with me!

The actual trip to the library was made a bit more complicated by the fact that there are two commencement-like events, a Red Sox game, and a Celtics game tonight. After I finally arrived at the library I had to attempt to find the book, which took me over an hour. See, it wasn't in the normal knitting section like the call number would suggest - then I went down to the "New Nonfiction" section and couldn't find it there either and then I finally discovered that it was out on a table in a pretty little display of crafty books. Darn you BPL! But my trip was ultimately successful and now I can knit the Koigu blanket, just as soon as I finish....

Yeah, we'll see.

Hey, that's me!

Today I went by Borders on my way home and saw it - How to Knit In the Woods with my sock patterns in it! The thing about designing patterns for a book is this: you design the stuff, you knit the stuff, you furiously mail the stuff, and then you wait. You wait so long you've practically forgotten that you even made it and of course during this whole time you can't show it to anyone and then FINALLY the book is out and you're like "Wow, there it is!"

Today it finally became real, and so I proudly present some socks:

twistsandturns

Pattern: Twists and Turns Socks
Yarn: Socks That Rock Lightweight in Jade

These, affectionately know as "the girly socks", are actually the second pair I designed. MJ was nice enough to crank out a pair on very little notice in her own yarn, and those are the purple ones also pictured in the book. In fact the picture on the pattern page shows a more "artsy" version of mine and a more detailed version of hers. They're gorgeous.

And now for the "manly socks":

Pattern: Cougar Mountain Socks
Yarn: Trekking Pro Natura in #1600

Unfortunately the picture of the second pair is not very good. I think my photo taking skills have improved in the last 10 months. ;)

So there they are, my socks. Now onward!
