Sock Power

I knit socks in public all the time. At coffee shops, on the bus, on the T, occasionally while walking down the street... I get lots of weird looks and occasional questions and once in a while I meet another knitter who is nice enough to chat with me. When Lucia talked about Sock Power I knew I had to get a friend to snap a picture. This one happened to be in Starbucks, and the telltale muggles are in the background.

Yeah, I look kind silly. It was very cold and I was wearing two pairs of pants! (I don't know why that's an excuse, but I'm using it anyway.)

I also finished a pair of socks last night for my Secret Cupid, but I won't show those until they're gifted in a couple of weeks.

Another order of business is my questionnaire for the YFC Secret Pal.

What type of yarn do you knit with most often?

Sock yarn!

Is there any type of yarn that you would love to try but haven't yet, such as bamboo, banana fiber?

Hemp yarn. I've made the necklaces and such with the twine when I was younger, but I'd love to try some of the hemp yarn made for knitting.

In your opinion what is a luxury yarn?

Anything that the knitter really loves. For me it would be yummy soft hand dyed sock yarn.

Is there any type of yarn or fiber content you dislike or would prefer not to receive?

I would prefer no silk. I'm also not a big fan of novelty yarns and/or acrylic.

What type of garments do you most often knit?

Socks!

What types of knitting books do you enjoy?

I love sock books, but I have quite a few. I recently got one of the Noro books and it's really neat too.

What is a color you like but rarely or never buy yourself?

None really. My favorites are blue and purple and that's what I usually buy.

If you were pregnant and had to name your baby a fiber, what would her/his name be?

Hmm... maybe Moorit for a boy and Angelina for a girl.

Do you spin?

Yep, I have a Kromski Symphony wheel.

What is one fiber you've never spun?

Some of the "weirder" wool breeds, soy silk, silk latte.

If someone in your family or a best friend had to describe you in one word, what would it be?

friendly

Please tell us one odd thing about you.

Oh, there are so many... Well, I have a spreadsheet cataloging my yarn - lots of people think that's odd.

What was your favorite cartoon when you were little.

I didn't watch cartoons, although later I like Animaniacs and Fairly Odd Parents.

Do you have animals? If so, please name them and tell us a little about them.

I have two cats (Pantalaimon and Kirjava) and an assortment of fish. Pan and Java are brother and sister tabby cats that are turning 5 in February. I adopted them about 1 1/2 years ago from a woman who had to get rid of them due to her baby being allergic, and they're great kitties. Pan is fairly normal and Java is a little snuggly cat, and also afraid of strangers. She likes to cling to me

The fish are in two tanks, one freshwater and one saltwater.

And last but not least, if you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Seattle! That's where I'm from and I miss it a lot.

Hey, you look great, and so do the socks! Purple and green, yum. I love blue too.

What's weird about having a spreadsheet cataloguing your yarn? I don't have one, but probably should. (Hey, what's this? I don't remember it.)

That's wonderful.

I missed Seattle too. But now that I'm back in Port Orchard, I have only been there once since getting home. What's up with that???? I need to get back on my game. ;-)

Oi! I have some soy silk/cashmere fiber. Do you want me to send you some along with your socks?

I'm not sure why I said Oi. I am wearing two pairs of pants.
