All ready for Harry Potter!

I got my package today from my amazing Harry Potter pal, Lulu2! It came all the way from the United Arab Emirates and contained many goodies:

The box was decorated, and look at all the cool stuff inside!

This embroidery is especially cool!

And it came in this awesome traditional frame:

As for actual knitting... I knit these socks all over the Harbor Islands this weekend!

The yarn is Dorchester Farms sock yarn, one of the first pairs worth that I bought at a sheep & wool festival. Possibly Vermont, I can't recall off the top of my head.

Wow!

I got home today to find my belated birthday package from MJ. Now, let it be known that she did actually send me a package near the time of my birthday but due to address confusion it was returned and she sent it again - this time with a few extra goodies.

Yes, she knit me socks! Waving Lace from Favorite Socks - and they fit great.

The starry thing is an awesome circular needle holder - and on the back a zippered pocket. She pointed it out with a note:

Thank you so much MJ!

In other news, I finally got a picture of the sock I knit a while back.

Pattern: Infant's Fancy Silk Sock from Knitting Vintage Socks
Yarn: Tofutsies

I knit a single sock because it was a store sample, but I've decided to count it in my KVS goal.

In other news, here's a picture of my Secret Solstice package from Cassandra - she has better pictures of the goodies on her blog including some awesome skull wristwarmers!

And last but not least, a little word about the podcast. Thanks to all of you who have gone and listened to it so far! As of this moment we've had 72 listeners - not bad for the first couple days!

I've heard some positive and some negative things so far - I know the sound quality is a bit echo-y (hopefully the addition of the couch to my living room will help with that!) and that the editing is not perfect. Unfortunately Audacity got mad at me during editing and made a few parts of the original file silent, so the editing was a little more severe than I had hoped. Oh, and next time we will make sure to put Amanda closer to the microphone! Ah well, live and learn right?

Thanks for everyone who has given us kind words and encouragement!

A Secret Project Unveiled

Unlike all my other knitting buddies who have been revealing their Secret Solstice knits lately, I don't have any of that to show. In fact my project was a bit of a disaster and poor Amanda received a ball of yarn and a promise of a pair of socks. But that's a story for another time...

Right now I have a BIG announcement.

FiberCult - a new podcast by six knitting girls from Boston (that would be Alexis, Amanda, me, Cassandra, Catherine, and Cathy). The first episode has just been uploaded so give it a listen and let me know what you think. :)

Get it here!

It's been a while!

Another pair of socks was kitchenered yesterday!

Pattern: Gentleman's Plain Winter Sock with Dutch Heel from Knitting Vintage Socks
Yarn: Sockotta
Started: 5/30/07
Finished: 6/13/07

I modified the pattern to fit a woman's foot and made the cuff a little shorter as part of that. I also used a traditional heel instead of a Dutch heel, and used a wedge toe.

As far as my KVS goal goes, I had a bit of a dilemma. I knit a single Infant's Fancy Silk Sock for a sample, and I couldn't decide whether to count it or knit two more. After talking with some other knitters at WWKIP Day I decided to count it - the goal was to knit all the patterns and the consensus was that knitting a single sock still counts as knitting the pattern.

So, with that decision, this pair brings me to 3/24 on my KVS goal!

And some socks I didn't knit:

Java is the fashion police, but Amanda says handknit socks are always in style- matching or not!

Knitting in Public and Socks!

Saturday was WWKIP (World Wide Knit In Public) day so I headed out to Copley with a friend to get our knit on. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great so we ended up in the indoor location, but it was still fun to knit and we did get quite a few stares from passers-by.

Now that the Uzume pattern is up at Socktopia I can share the picture of the socks I completed last month.

Pattern: Uzume
Yarn: Knit Picks Gloss
Started: 4/?/07
Finished: 5/11/07

I really liked this pattern and plan to knit it again for myself!

I currently have a few secret projects on the needles, but towards the end of the month a few of them should be postable. :)

More Spring Fling Goodies!

An amazing package arrived from my Spring Fling pal today! This was supposed to be a replacement for the last package I posted about, which obviously was found. There is still one more package yet to come - the fibery portion of this one, but I had to post this right now because it's just so cool. :D

When I opened a box I saw all those nicely wrapped little packages, and another cute handmade card on top. Not only did the wrapped bits look nice, they were very secure! Luckily I had my unpacking tools nearby and could get through all the tape.

Inside I found this:

A little fabric bag containing shells was on top, then I unwrapped the pieces inside to find two candles (orange and lemon scented), some pretty paper to make my own cards, another sewn little bag that's the perfect size for a sock project, more Almond Joy, and a handmade cup with some different kinds of tea inside. My pal made that cup just for me! And glazed it, and it's so pretty! I took ceramics in high school so I know a little bit about how much work goes into these things, and I will treasure that little cup.

The cat is not part of the package, she's just inspecting.

Thank you so much pal! I'm still working on uncovering your identity - apparently I'm a little distracted lately and my brain isn't functioning all that well.

As for the knitting, I have a few secret projects coming up, so pictures might be a bit scarce for a bit. I have a little in-person exchange with some of the girls I knit with and since I know for a fact that all of them read my blog I'll have to keep it under wraps til later this month. :)
